It, Sticking

Your choice of Post-it notes (or their generic counterparts) is essential to intra-library communication.  Choose a size and color for your correspondence that reflects your library personality.  For example:
  • Small notes are preferred by Tweeting-librarians.
  • Large, line-ruled pads are used by more "mature" librarians.
  • Pastels are for the meek, mild, and milquetoasts.
  • Neons are used by librarians who are trying too hard to be cool.
  • Pale yellow is reserved for the criminally insane (and/or the budget-restrained).
Never use pieces of scrap paper and transparent tape to communicate with your library coworkers.  That is just pitiful.

Ask the readers: What kind of Post-its do you use, and what do they say about you?

What about shaped post-its? Hearts, lips, stars etc?

I use the ones that were in my desk when I got here...neon green, dark purple and traditional pale yellow. I have so many on my monitor right now that it look like a sunflower

free post-it note pads from various library conferences advertising differents ILS's or databases or other crap you're never going to use.

I notoriously have no post-it notes at all, using instead swatches of scratch paper (mostly printer misfeeds) and paperclips.

What it says about me? I am the person most likely to have paper clips in my pocket.

I use neon green, neon blue, and blue flower shaped ones...and it says that I am 23 and fun.

Best sticky notes are from the Unemployed Philosophers Guild

I use any I can get my hands on. But the best are the ones available on my desktop, courtesy Windows 7. Does that make me cool, trying too hard, or something else altogether?

whatever free ones I get, no matter what vendor they are from

Mine are often from pharmaceutical companies. That makes me...sick? healed? better? toxic?

Apparently, I'm pitiful. :)

Actually, our boss is not particularly fond of sticky notes, so we use the piece of scratch paper taped down. Though, what few sticky notes we have are pale yellow.

As a Twittering librarian, I prefer the larger Post-It Notes. My handwriting is pretty bad because I type more than write and I need more space to make big, readable letters.

I use silly skull and crossbones post-its from Smiggle. Not sure what that means (if you're books are late I'll make you walk the plank?)

mine are shaped like an apple... or Bernadette Peters bending over.. I like 'em.

Post it notes are apparently so expensive that we reuse them. I got into a conflict with the woman who does the mending because she wanted me to reuse the same post it notes again and again. So every time I want the binding and plastic jacket changed I'm supposed to search through the pile for the note where I requested that repair combo last. Maybe I'll just use a pencil, and erase the note and write a new one.

I quite like the big post-it flip charts for meetings. MUCH easier than keeping tape at hand. But for personal use, I'm a traditionalist: square, usually yellow. Occasionally with marketing printed on them.

What it says about me? I don't know, either that I go for the "norm" or I'm lazy. :)

Alas, in my library we only use yellow ones. Therefore we are way too budget conscious and completely criminally insane.

I guess I cross boundaries here. I like the lined ones (older) that are neon colors (trying to be hip) Yep, that's me all over .... :-)

I have a couple of sticky notes of my own, but at work, for the most part I use whatever freebies I got at conferences, so on. After all, it's just work. Not like the coworkers care a whole lot.

lots of vendor ones. However, my current "in use" ones are from an author, Jackie Kessler, that are pale pink and feature a female demon in hot pink on the background holding a whip. On the bottom it reads "unleash your inner demon."

Of course, all my coworkers think I am bit odd anyway.

This post makes me think of Dead Like Me.

I use whatever I can steal from someone else, because mine always mysteriously disappear when I need one urgently..and sometimes if I'm lucky they reappear, but usually when I have no need for one. It's quite magical. My prefernce is large "neon" coloured ones cos I am a bit of a tryhard.

I have Salvador Dali post-its.
